Winged love life story

This story was created when I first visited Vancouver. I was taking the sky train from Richmond to the Waterfront with the intention of taking the ferry to the North Shore. On the train I listened to the following playlist and this story was born.

My recommendation is to read the story while listening to the playlist. Every time you finish a chapter move to the next song. Make sure the song is a background music and not the main MVP. You may not get to hear the whole song. It is intentional and part of the experience.

Winged love life story

8/13/2015

“White Wedding”

She soared up, he was right behind her. Her heart was beating fast, wings flapping hard, to get away. He was on her tail, almost catching up.

She dove, wings flat beside her body, diving like a rock, the water coming fast towards her. At the last moment she pulled back and up. Wings flapping in the air beside her; she just stopped there, suspended in midair, looking for him. He wasn’t far behind. Descending fast, it looked like he was going to crash into the water. At the last minute he too pulled up to face her. His wings kept him suspended in midair, his face just inches from hers. He murmured something beneath his breath she couldn’t hear, his eyes holding hers with an intense look.

Furious? She wondered. Tossing her head back she roared up laughing. Then spun and soared up.

“Light My Fire”

She spread her wings, catching an air stream, she floated for a while. He floated beside her catching his breath.

Without warning she flipped down, head first, wings tight beside her body, she dove straight to the water, not stopping this time. As soon as she hit the water her body transformed, by the time she was fully immersed she adopted the form of a dolphin. A splash later, his dolphin form was swimming beside her.

They played, chasing each other for a while. Swimming, diving, jumping above water. And through all the playfulness she could see a glint of fire in his eyes. She swam to shore, gaining back her legs and wings as she was leaving the water.

Running on the beach, she adopted the form of a winged horse; he caught up, riding beside her. They rode fast, past the beach, so fast, they left the ground. Ascending like Pegasus’ horses into the sky, flying above, forests, fields and rivers.

“Moondance”

Suddenly she looked around and she couldn’t see him. Dropping her winged horse form, looking for him, she lost her balance, and fell into a river.

With wet wings and cold bare feet she emerged to see him sitting in the middle of a meadow nearby. In his human form. “I cannot do it any longer,” he said. “I need a break.”

He looked so comfortable, so natural sitting there in this form. She never felt that comfortable in a human body, without her wings. The only times she felt comfortable were when she was swimming and sometimes dancing. Especially dancing with him.

He gestured to her to come sit beside him.

Standing on the edge of the meadow she took tentative steps towards him. Feet cold, wings still wet, spread behind her, she looked to him like some exotic creature. He had no idea if he could pin her down, like a huge butterfly or at least keep her beside him.

She sat down, wings hugging her legs. Shivering slightly as water drops still fell off her body.

“Fever”

She remembered the first time she saw him in this lifetime. All she wanted was to hear him talk and feel his arms around her. She loved hiding her face in his shoulder when they danced in closed embrace, smelling him, never wanting the song to end.

If she could just dance with him the whole night she would. His energy felt familiar and enticing at the same time. And when she went to the temporary place she called home, his energy followed her, and all she could think of was them kissing each other, wanting them to kiss each other.

Her human existence demanded her attention for the next couple of weeks until she saw him again. She didn’t realize how much she missed him, how much she liked him until she saw his smile.

This time all he wanted was to hear her talk, drinking her energy and enthusiasm. Despite what life throws at her, she seemed so calm and yet energized. He wanted to be her shoulder to cry on. She looked so vulnerable, losing her earthly footing. And all she wanted was to get lost in a dance with him. Get lost in his dance with him.

His energy followed her home, his energy disturbed her sleep. Wherever she turned in bed he was there in front of her, facing her. She could see her past and her future in his eyes and she didn’t know how to be with him in the present.

“You do something to me”

Every time she saw him, her heart missed a beat, there were butterflies in her stomach, every time she was near him, her brain turned to mush, her emotions were all jumbled and there was a rainbow of energy swirling between them.

All she could do not to be missing a step, ending up with her foot in her mouth or coming across all awkward and wrong, was to dance with him. And even this became rationed and measured. The only time she felt completely comfortable with him was when they hugged.

How do humans do this? Her insecurities came to the surface, her frustration and confusion baffled her. The more she liked him, the more awkward their connection became, the more awkward her behaviour became.

She wanted his advice, she wanted his shoulder to lean on, she wanted to navigate this life with him by her side and she wanted them to kiss each other. She could still feel his energy, she could see his heart.

She wanted to be honest and true with her feelings, with him, and didn’t get a chance.
