A little post about “home” and “Boxes” ( not the kind you’re thinking about )

This little post about “home” comes to mind as I travel, move countries or just meet new people.

A little post about “home” and “Boxes” (not the kind you’re thinking about)

October 2013

People ask me “where is home?”

They ask “Where are you from?”

and they mean

“where were you born? / what is your nationality?”

They ask “where is your hometown?”

and they mean

“where were you born/grew up?”

Then they ask “where is your accent from?”

meaning

“what is your native tongue? /

where did you grow up? /

what is your nationality? /

race? / etc etc etc … ”

I am not quite sure what to answer

and if I answer truthfully

I am not sure I’ll fit

in the made-up neat little boxes.

So “I was born in Jerusalem …

in this lifetime”

“what does it matter what my nationality is”

“I am actually from Planet Earth”

“My consciousness is from space or the universe or

somewhere more vast,

you can say it’s out of this world”

“I grew up in Jerusalem but

I also grew up in London (albeit much later)”

confused?

“My accent is a mixture

and I feel at home in different places /

cities /

countries /

continents”

“have I mentioned I am from Earth?”

“I am also made of stardust”

“Home is where my heart is”,

“home is where I lay my hat”

literally – I have several hats.

What does it matter if we fit in a nice little box,

we are much more than that.

Who are you?

…

You are much more than that!!

Do you want to know what is written on my passport/birth certificate

or what’s in my heart?

Why don’t you ask me:

“Where have I discovered who I am?”

“What do I love?”

“Where is my magic from?”

“What music do I feel?”

“Have I adopted any cultures lately?”

“Created a home?”

“What is my favourite colour?”

“What would I love to be when I grow up?”

“Is there life on Mars?”

No, seriously, is there life on Mars?

I’d really love to know.

*~*~*

And finally, I’d love to quote Jason Vale quoting a homeless person who only eats healthy food:

“If I don’t look after my body, I’ll have nowhere to live” …

So where is your home?

Love yourself,

            Love your home,
