For eons humans have been asking themselves, what am I doing here? What is my purpose? What is the purpose of life? Where did I come from? Where am I going to? They’ve asked their gods, their prophets, the stars. They’ve asked the oracle at Delphi.
You may have your own questions.
Well I don’t have the answers.Β All I know is that life is a journey and we don’t always know where it leads and if and how we get to pave the way.
I wrote this poem about ten years ago and it still seems to fit my life today. I hope you’ll enjoy it (as much as I do) π
My Road
June 1999
Beyond the Blue Mountains,
Beyond the fluffy clouds,
I’ve walked this road
from morning to dusk.
I didn’t know where to –
I am going.
Neither where Β from –
I arrived.
Am I looking for something?
Or trying to hide?
Beyond the different borders
and the changing crowds.
I was walking this road
from morning to dusk.
Is it who? I am looking for?
Is it my other half…
I am walking this road
from morning to dusk.
Beyond the big, blue mountains,
Between the fluffy, white clouds.
Was it me I was looking for?
Was it finding my past?
And I couldn’t remember
why I Β started this path.
I have mountain to climb more
and rivers to cross.
I have bridges to walk through
and drinks to toss.
There are people I’ve promised
to meet on the way.
There are lessons to learn here
and attention to pay.
Am I trying to remember
or maybe to unmask.
Why I am walking this road
from morning to dusk…
